Your crystal treasure chest can contain a multitude of crystals or only one, and you don’t even need to buy that. Any stone you pick up, such as a Flint pebble or a water-tumbled Milk Quartz or Jasper, can be imbued with intent and protective energy and work as well as an expensive crystal. Anything that catches your eye is the stone for you — as long as you remember the simple rules of cleanse, energize, program, use and cleanse again.
It will undoubtedly be considered heresy by crystal purists who set great store by the unique properties of specific crystals, but any crystal (throughout this book any stone is referred to as a crystal, regardless of whether it’s a gem-quality or semi-precious stone or a lump of rock) does anything you ask it to — provided you do ask. So one stone could be used for everything, although once you begin to work with crystals you soon realize that having several to choose from widens what you can do with them, as otherwise you can overload a stone.
Opposite are my top ten treasure chest ’essential favourites’ and also a list of ten new-generation, high-vibration stones. The essential top ten are all you’ll need, although you can have fun trying the other stones in the treasure chests throughout the book, choosing one or two to enhance your protection experience. My own particular favourites are a Brandenberg Amethyst and a piece of Shungite.
Beautiful crystals are lovely to look at and stunning to wear, but crystals don’t have to be beautiful to be effective. Some of the most powerful stones are also some of the ugliest — to the casual, external eye. When you learn to see with your inner eye, you glimpse their power and their inner beauty.
If you are getting together a crystal treasure chest it can be useful to have a range of colours and shapes and a combination of earthy and high-vibration stones. Long, pointed crystals focus energy into a specific place, drawing positive energy down into your body if placed point in, or releasing negativity if placed point out. Round and tumbled crystals gently radiate energy.
In recent times brown and smoky crystals have been used for the earth energy centre beneath your feet, red and orange crystals for the creative energy centres (your lower chakras) in your belly, yellow for the emotional centre in your solar plexus, green or pink for the heart centre, blue for the throat, indigo-purple for the third eye and lilac or white for the crown. A set of crystals that are varying colours can cleanse, align and boost these energy centres, but you can also choose crystals for specific purposes such as reversing negative earth energies (geopathic stress) or overcoming electromagnetic emanations.

Lemurian Seed Quartz
A Lemurian crystal makes an excellent wand as it is a naturally long, extended point. It unites the physical and subtle levels of being, helps us to remember our spiritual selves, and grounds vibrational shifts into the physical body. The etched markings can be ascended like a ladder to access multi-dimensional levels. Lemurians remind lightworkers to attend to their evolution as well as facilitating that of others. Choosing your Crystal(s)
You possibly already have some favourite crystals but may want to acquire more — they can be addictive. We’ve already touched on picking up a pebble that appeals to you but, faced with the enormous choice in a crystal shop, how do you go about choosing? Well, you can do it the rational way: read the lists given in this book or glance through The Crystal Bibles, identify the stones that have the properties you’re seeking, see which picture attracts you and go out and buy that stone. Or you can do it the irrational way: look through the crystal photographs section in this book to see which calls to you, or plunge your hands into a group of crystals in a shop. That way you usually come up with one or two that are for you, or your eye alights on one instantly. That’s the intuitive way to choose your crystal, to let it call to you. If you do that, you often find yourself going home with something different from what you thought you were going to buy, but discover it’s the perfect crystal for you.

Next time you’re out walking, look around for a pebble that could become ’your crystal’ or ’your guidestone’. Water-rounded Milk Quartz, Flint, Jasper or other pebbles are ideal as they are very tactile. Keep this crystal with you at all times. But that’s not the end of the story. If your crystal is to work on your behalf you need to ask it to do what you require — and you need to cleanse and recharge it before doing anything else.
The Effect of Shape

Cleaning, Charging and Programming your Crystals
As crystals readily absorb vibrations of all kinds and pick up the energies of everyone and anything who handles them or is around them, they need to be cleansed regularly, especially before being used for the first time. They will benefit from regular cleaning even if you only wear them as jewellery or have them on display.
Cleaning your crystals is simple if you choose tumbled stones or single points. You merely have to hold them under running water for a few minutes and, preferably, put them out in the sun and possibly the moon to recharge (white crystals are particularly fond of moonlight). If sunlight isn’t available, you can put them onto a large Quartz cluster or Carnelian to recharge. You can also use salt water to cleanse robust stones. If you use crystal clusters or stones that are fragile or dissolve, such as Selenite or Halite, the crystals need placing in raw brown rice overnight.
Once a crystal has been cleaned and energetically recharged, it needs programming to ensure that it is working in harmony with you and in accord with your intention. (The reason crystals sometimes don’t work for people is they often forget to ask!) The first time you program a crystal, hold it in your hands and ask it always to work for your highest good and that of others. If you want it to do something specific, like form a shield of protection, be precise but don’t limit it. Tantalite
