Houdini’s Transformation Spread

On This Day

Houdini was an avid aviator and the first person to achieve controlled, powered flight over Australia in his biplane. He made a few movies and debunked fraudulent mediums after vain attempts to contact his mother after her death.

Harry Houdini first performed a handcuffed escape from a nailed, roped packing crate lowered into the East River in New York City on this day in 1912. When police forbade him to use a pier, he hired a tugboat and invited the press on-board. He escaped in fifty-seven seconds.

Summation of Spread

The Eight of Swords in the Rider-Waite deck looks like a Houdini escape act, as the figure is blindfolded and bound. Have you ever voluntarily placed yourself in this position? If so, how can you free yourself? The answer may lie in this spread.

Ready for a change? For many fans, Houdini’s stunts weren’t about breaking out of shackles; rather, his feats represented a magical transformation. This spread is based on the next transformation you will experience.
