Hierophant Card Spread
On This Day
In ancient Greece the Hierophant led rites, oversaw worship and sacrifice, and was the interpreter of sacred mysteries and esoteric principles. He was a mystagogue, instructing initiation and religious mystery.
St. Boniface, responsible for converting the historic Pantheon building in Rome from a Pagan god—filled temple of Venus and Mars into a Christian church, began his reign as Pope Boniface IV today in 608.
Summation of Spread
While the High Priestess is the guardian of mysteries, the Hierophant is the popularizer bringing wisdom to the masses. In everyday life he is the guide, teacher, and mentor. Relating both social confirmation and the highest spiritual truths, he can represent both rigidity and tolerance.
Historical tarot decks include a Pope card. The Pope card was later called the Hierophant by esoteric deck makers. The Hierophant Card Spread is based on symbols found in the Hierophant card.
