365 Tarot Spreads: Revealing the Magic in Each Day - Sasha Graham 2014
Peek-a-Boo Burlesque Spread
On This Day
The term burlesque represents a literary, dramatic, or musical work designed for laughter. In the late seventeenth century it was applied to the works of Shakespeare and Chaucer. Not until the nineteenth century did it become a sultry striptease.
The first burlesque show opened in New York City on this day in 1866. Called The Black Crook, it ran for 475 performances and made over a million dollars for its producers.
Summation of Spread
The Two of Swords represents the parts of your psyche kept off-limits to others. The ocean and moon reflect elements fraught with emotion, revealing a card where two opposites coexist in harmony.
Are you a tease? Modern burlesque, often called neo-burlesque, invokes glamour girls’ pinup style while reveling in the art of the striptease. Partial clothing is removed while pasties and g-strings remain, leaving audiences a little something to the imagination. This alluring idea of the hidden informs this spread.
