Salus’s Healing Spread

On This Day

Studies have shown that having safe sex is one of the healthiest things you can do. An average tryst burns about 200 calories, boosts the immune system, and helps people live longer and happier lives.

The Roman festival of Salus, goddess of health, was celebrated on this day. Representing public safety, health, and welfare, her father was Aesculapius, the god of healing. His symbol was a staff with a single snake coiled around it, used in the modern symbol of medicine and healing. Salus had the job of looking after this sacred snake. The staff is similar to Mercury’s caduceus, a staff with two snakes and wings at the top.
