Cinquefoil is a common perennial herb native to eastern and Central America. She can be found growing in the most unusual of places, such as roadsides and waste areas. She has five leaflets and small yellow flowers with five slightly notched petals, giving her the name five-leaf or five-finger grass.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Cinquefoil is an ingredient in mouthwashes, skin washes, diaper rash salves, and other cosmetics. She contains large amounts of tannins, and makes a good astringent. An infusion of cinquefoil tonic is good for diarrhea, fevers, toothache, dysentery, and jaundice. Cinquefoil mixed with honey alleviates a sore throat and is therapeutic for coughs.

MAGICAL PROPERTIES

In medieval times, cinquefoil was said to scare off Witches, which is interesting since she is a staple in many Witches’ gardens, especially Witches of color. Work with her in health, money, protection, love, and power Magics. Cinquefoil is very protective, and can banish stubborn stagnant energies in your aura and bad vibrations from your home. I have to be honest, cinquefoil scares me a little! My mother has used five-finger grass for as long as I can remember, and each time she did my visions would take me to the craziest of places! Cinquefoil’s Incense Blend to Banish Negativity

YOU WILL NEED

1 teaspoon sandalwood powder

1 teaspoon dried cedar

1 tablespoon dried cinquefoil

1 small chunk of frankincense resin

1 teaspoon dried lavender

Abalone shell or small dish

WHAT TO DO

· Start by opening all the windows in your home.

· Stir up all the ingredients into an incense blend.

· Light your incense and leave it to burn on an abalone shell or small dish.

· Carry it around your space, allowing the smoke to flow everywhere.

· Leave your windows open for at least 15 to 20 minutes after you’ve finished.
