Borage, also known as starflower, is a medicinal herb. The leaves and blossoms are edible and taste a bit like cucumber. Borage gets along well with other plants and as it both repels pests and invites bees, it is a welcome addition to any garden.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Pliny the Elder, ancient Roman naturalist and philosopher, believed borage was an antidepressant. Borage serves as a tonic for the adrenal glands, and so can relieve stress; she also is very high in vitamins. Borage can help with eczema, premenstrual issues, ADHD, respiratory issues including cough and cold, and to combat alcohol dependency. She is also great for reducing general inflammation.

MAGICAL PROPERTIES

Borage’s anxiety-relieving properties clear the way for your psychic powers, allowing you to see clearly. Drink a tea of borage and your intuition will amplify—this is great to do before a reading, before any Magical workings, or before meditation. I work with borage to communicate with my ancestors, placing her on my ancestral altar and having her by me while I meditate, do any divination work, or chanting. In voodoo traditions, decorating the home with borage blossoms or adding them to a floor wash will help ensure domestic harmony.
