Pennyroyal has been used for herbal medicine for thousands of years, mainly to either assist with childbirth or to serve as an abortifacient. A medical text on gynecology written by a female Greek physician named Metrodora described mixing pennyroyal with wine to either bring on menstruation or abortion. Unsurprisingly, pennyroyal is poisonous if consumed in excessive quantities. She is also known as pudding grass, lurk in the ditch, and organ broth. She is a member of the mint family, and creeps along as a ground cover with small clusters of purple flowers.

Drinking pennyroyal tea is not only good for inducing menstruation, it is also helpful for regulating blood sugar; however, it should not be used in excessive quantities or for an extended period of time. Please do your research before consuming pennyroyal.
