In the book, Ghostly American Places: A Ghostly Guide to America’s Most Fascinating Haunted Landmarks, one of the places mentioned is a movie theater located on Cliff Gookin Boulevard on the outskirts of Tupelo, Mississippi. Various people who worked there have reported seeing heavy curtains moving by themselves when there were no breezes and hearing strange sounds such as unexplained footsteps, laughter, and mumbling voices.

One night, while cleaning the theater with her sister, the manager’s wife went into the projection room and opened the door to a closet containing brooms and a utility sink. She suddenly heard what sounded like “seven or eight dogs barking” despite there being no dogs in the room. When she shut the door, the barking ceased. When she re-opened it, the sound started up again. This curious happening, which occurred only the one time, defies explanation.
