Gabriel is the leader of the Chorus of Angels, which takes its Sefirotic office in Yesod. Gabriel’s name means “God is my strength.” He is known to inspire through dreams, rituals, and meditation, therefore, considered the empowerer. He appears as an influential, imposing figure wearing a purple and black robe. Atop his head are locks of wavy silver hair. He directs lunar influence and serves as a messenger and guide. His function is to be the great communicator of the divine as he oversees many aspects of communication between man and angels.

ImageGabriel is the portal to inspiration, change, intuition, and our emotions. He teaches the art of scrying and aids in divination to see past, present, and future. One may call upon him for help in communication and technology. Fertility and pregnancy are also strongly associated with this archangel. Gabriel thus helps us see the meaning of our lives and find the motivation and joy to get up and live to realize that meaning. But he can also allow us to listen more to our intuition and our inner voice; He can help us develop the powers of psychic abilities, including clairvoyance and prophecy.

The Chorus of Angels work closely with the physical plane and aid in communication and enhance the spirit’s strength. They are the chorus who work most closely with the physical plane and stimulate the sensory imagination and realization of ideas. In doing so, man is able to develop his sensory perception to improve its relationship with the outside world. Therefore, the Angels can be invoked to help develop the imagination, harmonize the senses, do work, and ideas concrete.

They may be called upon to facilitate communication, to learn various arts and sciences, and in all things having to do with the temporal world and physical well-being in general. Yesod is the seat of intuition. It is the sphere of the Astral Light and a receptacle of the emanations of the other sefira. Its function is to correct and purify the emanations to make them accessible to the human mind, which it represents. Yesod is the gate that leads to the higher spheres and is also said to be the seat of the First Heaven.
