From Harvest to Workshop
The Flower
Assessing the Natural Resources

It is important that you refine your flowers on the day of harvesting, as soon as possible. Always plan your harvesting to take place early in the morning (or at early moonrise for plants of the moon), and allocate time as soon as possible the same day (or night) to undertake the first two steps of the refinement process.

Keep the container of flowers out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dark place until you are ready to begin their refinement. If the flowers are exposed to heat, they will begin to wilt, and this both affects the potency of their essences and makes the separation part of the refinements more difficult. I always prepare my workshop beforehand so that when I return with my harvested plants I can begin the refinement immediately.

We have now discussed, in some detail, the physical and magical properties of the flower and how these may be utilized. We have also looked at the harvesting ritual and come to the point where we have returned to the workshop with our harvested flowers ready for refinement. We shall talk about the refinement of the complex of the flower in a later section, where we will focus on the work of the Druid in his or her workshop. For now, let’s turn our attention to the other major group of plants used in the plant lore of the Druidic tradition, trees.
