LEGENDARY POWER
Selenite stands at the threshold between spirit and matter. A Kabbalistic creation myth tells us that before the universe existed, God was everywhere, but he had to inhale to create space for our world. Realizing he was not present in creation, he fashioned vessels of divine light to populate the universe, but they shattered. Carrying that light, Selenite’s task is to reunite the shards of the divine with their source.
Selenite was traditionally used for scrying. An eleventh-century lapidary says Selenite grows with the waxing moon and diminishes with the waning one. The Alfonso lapidary says if the stone is hung on a tree, the fruit will grow and ripen rapidly.
HEALING POWER
In ancient Mesopotamia, Selenite kept sickrooms free from evil spirits. The “Ritual for Curing a Sick Man” reveals, “The selenite and the bitumen which they [the priests] smear on the door of the sick man, the selenite is Ninurta. The bitumen is Asakku. Ninurta pursues Asakku.” Ninurta is Saturn, a good guy, and Asakku an evil deity. The spell says Asakku was caught in a ritually created net, much as modern crystal workers use a Selenite grid to constrain a destructive entity.
The Alfonso lapidary tells us Selenite cured epilepsy; wearing it prevented attacks. Today crystal workers use Selenite to ameliorate detrimental effects of dental amalgam and free radicals. Green Selenite may delay aging of the skeleton and skin. Fishtail Selenite supports nerves and neural pathways. Peach Selenite assists puberty and menopause. Placing Blue Selenite on the third eye chakra silences mental chatter and opens the third eye. Pure white Selenite is an excellent auric cleanser and healer. All Selenite acts as an emotional stabilizer that calms mood swings.
