LEGENDARY POWER

Sapphire means “Beloved of Saturn” in Sanskrit and the stone is one of the great metaphysical healing gems of Vedic astrology. According to Hindu legend, Saturn was the first planet to appear out of the void, and Star Sapphire, with its strikingly bright star formation, symbolizes the emergence of light out of darkness.

In the sixteenth century, Ivan the Terrible delighted in Sapphire because “it preserveth, and inceaseth courage, joys, the heart, is pleasing to all the vital senses, precious and very sovereign for the eyes, cheers the sight, takes away bloodshot, strengthens the muscles and the strings thereof.”

Traditionally, the gem was presented to Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church to symbolize their vow of chastity and to retain their innocence and purity. In the language of gemstones, Sapphire still signifies innocence, constancy, truth, and virtue. It is considered to be a crystal of endurance and wisdom. In ancient Mesopotamia, people believed the heavens consisted of crystalline spheres—an idea that continued into Renaissance times. In Ezekiel, Sapphire forms the throne of God; in Revelations, it is one of the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem, echoing the belief that it was one of the stones in the Breastplate of the Jewish High Priest. A stone of Archangels Metatron, angel of integration, and Zadkiel, the comforter, Sapphire rules over the Seraphic realm.

HEALING POWER

In the lapidaries of the Middle Ages, Sapphire was reputed to heal the eyes, and way back into history, it was also used for diseases of the blood. Crystal healers today still use Sapphire to improve the elasticity of veins, heal blood disorders, and regulate overactive glands and systems of the body. Sapphire-infused water can be used to bathe the eyes to ensure crystal-clear sight.

TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER

Sapphires come in many colors, and each has its own unique properties. Blue Sapphire encourages you to seek out spiritual truth. Pink Sapphire draws into your life exactly what you need to evolve. Yellow Sapphire is a crystal of abundance that attracts wealth and stimulates insight. Black Sapphire centers and protects.
