LEGENDARY POWER
In a Mesopotamian creation legend, the god Marduk (Jupiter) formed three “heavens” or spheres above the Earth, the lower one created from Jasper. On it, he drew the constellations. Around 350 B.C.E., the Greek poet Posidippus called the stone “misty Jasper, the ethereal stone,” echoing this belief.
The ancient Egyptians associated it with the menstrual blood of the goddess Isis; the stone assisted pregnant women and increased lactation. Early lapidaries say Jasper offered protection against disease and energized the body. Believed to protect its owner from drowning, a Jasper amulet also kept spiders and scorpions at bay. It guarded against sorrow and relieved drought. The fourth-century B.C.E. Lithica stated, “Whoe’er the polished grass-green jasper wears his parched globe they’ll satiate with rain.”
Jasper symbolizes nurturing, courage, and wisdom. The early Christian lapidary of Epiphanius, Bishop of Salamis in Cyprus, credited green Jasper with the power to drive away evil fantasies. In fifteenth-century German High Magic, it acted against “offensive imaginings,” and in the sixteenth century, it expelled “noxious phantasms.” Today, we would call these paranoid delusions and entity attachments. Jasper helps you cope if you feel overwhelmed by unpleasant nightmares or beset by evil entities.

HEALING POWER
Traditionally, Jasper healed dis-eases of the stomach, lungs, and chest. According to Cornelius Agrippa and Al Biruni, it facilitated birth. A 1587 Dutch lapidary reported that Jasper staunched blood and regulated the pulse. The stone was said to increase fertility and creativity, overcoming impotence.
Wear Jasper to ameliorate stress and induce tranquility. Brown and Picture Jasper facilitate karmic healing, draw out ancient toxins, and boost the immune system. Yellow Jasper encourages emotional detoxification and calms digestive processes.
TRANSFORMATIONAL POWER
A stone of courage, Jasper helps you be honest with yourself when facing problems. It lets you move forward assertively, rather than aggressively. If you have been selfish or self-centered, holding Jasper reminds you to work harmoniously with others.
Green Jasper balances obsessive tendencies and restores harmony. Purple Jasper eliminates contradictions and paradoxes. Yellow Jasper offers protection during outof-body journeys.
