“Away from it all—here, there, and everywhere” is a quote by American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner that inspired architect Karla Menten in the design of her home. Menten lives in an almost sterile all-white space, where everything is hidden when not in use. To make it was an arduous design task, as the space is for both living and working.
Menten looked at the suprematist compositions of Kazimir Malevich to inspire the geometry of her home. In her words, her house is “a proposal for a twenty-first century machine for living.”

Menten’s view on “an elementally ethereal aesthetic,” a look that involves the retention of open space and a minimum of color, might inspire you if you are disinclined to unnecessary detailing and decoration.
