DJ House is located on a small plot in a predominantly residential area. Its architects overcame the challenges of tight dimensions and strict building regulations, to create a space that allows light-filled rooms and visual continuity through voids that seem to be carved out of the house. The simple design of the main façade contrasts with the complexity of the volumes that form the house.
Exterior lighting can highlight the architecture of a house or particular features, such as an entry or landscape, while still providing sufficient general lighting.
A central courtyard divides the house into two blocks and helps organize circulation in the interior.
Floating stairs have strong sculptural qualities and are reminiscent of the suspended objects made by the American minimalist artist Donald Judd.
The living room is a 16-feet-high space. Its placement below street level allows privacy, as well as abundant natural light, which filters in through the courtyard.
Glossy finishes highlight architectural features. A combination of glossy and matte surfaces provides depth.
