Fool’s Spread

On This Day

In the ruling days of monarchy, fools or court jesters were often the only members of the court with the freedom to do or say anything they pleased. While fools and simpletons act outside the bounds of normalcy, this ultimate outsider status actually brought them freedom.

Today is April Fool’s Day, twenty-four hours of light-hearted pranks and jokes. No resource explains how or why the practical jokes began, but it is likely connected to the oldest fertility rites of spring, when the sun’s return echoed the continuance of human life.

Summation of Spread

The Fool represents a fresh start and a new beginning. Because he harbors no fear, the Fool represents freedom. If you follow the Fool’s path, new possibilities evolve and your landscape will inevitably change.

Today was made for the Fool card, on whom this spread is based. The questions are based on symbolism found within the Fool card.
