See the Light of Truth Spread

On This Day

The church admits St. Lucy’s backstory is built on legend and folklore.

Before the change of calendar, today’s Feast of St. Lucy was held on the winter solstice. In the Germanic world, this night is known for its surge in spirit activity. St. Lucy made a vow of chastity. Her father arranged a marriage for her anyway. Lucy decided if she removed her eyes, her groom would flee. God was so impressed, he gave her back her eyes and healed her vision. This is why Lucy is the patron saint of blindness.
