Transcendental Spread

On This Day

Transcendental meditation is a form of mantra meditation introduced to the United States by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1960s. This form of meditation is not connected to the Transcendentalist movement, but both are meant to move a person beyond the limits of themselves.

Henry David Thoreau was born on this day in 1817. Poet, philosopher, and author of Walden; or, Life in the Woods, Thoreau was a leading Transcendentalist.

Summation of Spread

The Hanged Man connects to all forms of transcendence. He is willing to sacrifice creature comforts, look at the world through a new perspective, and perform the ultimate surrender of moving beyond one’s physical limits.

Are you ready to embrace the sublime? Transcendentalism is a philosophical movement. It places importance on the purity of the individual and nature, outside of organized religion. It claims people are at their best when they are truly self-reliant and independent rather than following pre-set, predetermined dogma. This spread is inspired by the ideas of leading Transcendentalists.
