Those unfamiliar with the pronunciation of German or the other continental languages will perhaps need some assistance in the correct performance of the basic sound values of the mantric formulas. This guide will enable everyone to perform most of the sounds flawlessly.

The Vowels

a

as in father

e

as the a in gate

i

as the ee in fleet

o

as in go

u

as in rule

These vowel sounds are to be kept pure and simple at all times. When making each of them, there should be no movement of the jaw.

The Consonants

f

as in modern English

th

as a simple t

r

trilled in the back of the throat (as in German or French) or in the front of the mouth (as in Spanish)

k

as in modern English

h

as in modern English at the front of a word but silent following vowels. The preceding vowels are then long.

n

as in modern English

s

as z in zero when in initial position or between vowels, or as ss in glass in final position

In certain mantric contexts, as indicated in the instructions, a final —s is pronounced as z.

t

as in modern English

b

as in modern English

g

always “hard” as the g in go
