Also known as the elven tree, elms are some of the most common trees in North America, with thousands populating New York City’s Central Park—despite an attack by Dutch elm disease. It’s not surprising that this tree is so precious to us, as her flexible wood can be made into just about anything.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Elm bark can be used to soothe a cough, treat digestive disorders, or as an astringent. Elm bark can also clean open or festering wounds.

MAGICAL PROPERTIES

Elm provides a sense of peace and comfort, which is why so many of us feel at ease while resting under her branches. One of my favorite places to write and read is under an elm tree. She banishes negativity, and wakes the imagination, allowing me to dream without limits. She can bring out creative projects and even solutions to issues that may have been pestering you.

She sparks creativity, lending power to your art Magic. Yes, art is Magic, especially if you are the artist. Whatever your art form is, doing it under an elm tree brings your work to a higher frequency, imbuing it with healing energy that will lure people to your creations—and for good reason, since your work will be vibing with an energy we all need in our lives. If you set your intentions into what you are creating, elm will keep it locked in your art forever. If you can’t work under an elm tree, just keep some bark near you while you work.

PLANT WISDOM

Work with elm to escape from real life and into your imagination, or simply to find peaceful, quiet solitude. If you have trouble with meditation, try working with elm and see how it becomes so much easier and more enjoyable. Dreaming of elm can mean a few different things: If you see branches falling off the elm, it means death is coming—either a literal death of someone you know, or a path in your life is dying, or a project, and so forth. If you are dreaming of climbing an elm tree, this means you need to leave something in your life—likely you are in a bad situation or toxic relationship, job, or environment. A dream of a peacefully swaying elm is a message from Mother Earth sending you love.
