This famously carnivorous plant catches her prey with a literal trap of her leaves. She secretes a sweet-scented nectar that lures insects in; then her tiny hairs are triggered and her jaws snap shut—and they do so incredibly quickly, in about one-tenth of a second.

A juice made from Venus flytrap can stimulate the immune system, and researchers are studying if she may be useful in treating cancer, particularly Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
