Agrimony is a woody herb with tiny yellow flowers. She grows all over North America, Europe, and Asia, and gives off a lovely, soft scent, smelling like slightly spicy apricots. She also produces a nice yellow dye.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Ancient Greeks worked with agrimony to treat eye disorders, as well as issues with the kidneys and liver. In England, she served as an aphrodisiac, and according to English folklore, if you placed a sprig of agrimony under someone’s head, they would sleep until it was removed. That’s probably not likely, but a tea or decoction brewed from agrimony can help you achieve a gentle rest. Nowadays, agrimony is most commonly used in skin care, as she is very effective at clearing up pimples and acne.

MAGICAL PROPERTIES

Agrimony is protective. You can place her under your pillow to ward off nightmares and intrusive spirits, or you can bury her at the boundaries of your home or garden to offer long-term protection from evil spirits, intruders, and unwanted quests. Agrimony is great to meditate with in times of hardship. Connecting to agrimony allows her to search deep within you for traces of negativity—she dispels what she finds, cleansing you from the inside out. She also helps accelerate spiritual healing, which is my personal favorite way of working with her. I do this by taking a leaf and crushing it, allowing her beautiful aroma to envelop my senses as I meditate. Whatever it is you seek, ask for her help, and remember to thank her after you’ve finished.

I burn dried agrimony at least once a week to move bad vibes out of my home. I also like to take some crushed dried agrimony and sprinkle a horizontal line in front of my front door when I have guests coming over. This protects me from any spirits that may have latched on to your visitors, leaving them outside.

PLANT WISDOM

When you dream of agrimony, you are receiving a message from her spirit that you are protected, which often imparts a sense of peace and calm. But if you dream of agrimony bleeding, she is trying to warn you that if you don’t embody your truth, you will be consumed with ghosts feeding off your spirit. Many years ago, when I was running away from my true path and purpose, this dream came to me multiple times. If you want agrimony to speak to you in your dreams, drink a tea made with just a sprig of agrimony, a teaspoon of lemon balm, and a teaspoon of valerian root.
