Wally
Hounds and Hauntings
by Paul King
When I was a young teenager, my parents took in a miniature schnauzer named Wally when his original owner passed away. He was a great dog who got along well with everyone whether they were human or animal.
Each night after I went to bed, he jumped up beside me and lay against my legs for comfort and warmth. He lived with us for about two years or so when suddenly his kidneys failed and he had to be put to sleep. This upset me horribly and I cried for a couple of days.
A couple of nights after he passed away I was lying in my bed feeling about as low as one could imagine, when I felt something small jump into bed and immediately lean up against my legs. I looked down and there wasn’t anything visible there, but I knew it was Wally coming back to tell me that he was okay and that everything was going to be all right. A great sense of peace came over me and I fell asleep in about five minutes.
I never felt Wally get into bed with me again. I believe he is now with his original owners, but I will never forget how he came back to let me know he was okay.
