Hyacinth - The Flowers

The Magic of Flowers: A Guide to Their Metaphysical Uses & Properties - Tess Whitehurst 2013

Hyacinth
The Flowers

One would be hard-pressed to argue that there are flowers more beautiful and fragrant as the hyacinth. Indeed, she steals the show in the early spring and is the reigning diva of any garden in which she appears.

Hyacinths are named after the beautiful Greek youth Hyacinth, who was deeply loved and adored by Apollo. It was said that Zephyr (the wind) was so jealous of their relationship that he killed Hyacinth. Where his blood spilled, a hyacinth flower appeared. (Although named after a male mythological character, hyacinth possesses a feminine essence and is therefore referred to in the text as such.)

Magical Uses

Abundance and Luxury

Sometimes we may unknowingly push abundance and luxury away because, on some level, we feel undeserving—when, in fact, just like a tree that receives nourishment from the earth and sun simply by virtue of being present and alive, abundance and luxury are our natural state. On an emotional and vibrational level, magically working with hyacinth reminds us that we are immanently deserving and helps us to receive prosperity and experience luxury as a matter of course.

Attracting Gifts

Admittedly, some magical objectives are more self-serving than others, but there is nothing unspiritual about receiving gifts, and being open to receive aligns us with our intuition and opens up the floodgates to our abundance. So if you’re in the mood to work a little magic for the purpose of attracting wonderful favors and gifts, what can be the harm? That is, of course, as long as you don’t interfere with anyone’s free will by singling out specific individuals during such magical undertakings (in other words, do a general ritual without picturing any faces or naming any names). Hyacinth can help with this, because—just like twinkling eyes and a disarming smile—she elicits an exceptional level of generosity.

For this purpose, magically work with the essence or blossom as you feel guided or sit with her mindfully as you silently request her help with shifting your vibration to a more receptive, magnetic one.

Charm and Irresistibility

Most of us spend a good amount of time and money on things in the physical world that (we hope) make us a bit more charming and irresistible. On the magical side of things, hyacinth blossoms can help us do the same. This can be especially helpful for those particular evenings or events when you really want to attract positive attention and shine your irresistible light.

The potion below can help you in such occasions to do just that. Please employ it only once per moon cycle (otherwise its effectiveness will be compromised—and besides, you’ve got to leave some of the attention for those other folks).

IRRESISTIBILITY POTION

While you’re alone, add four drops hyacinth essence to a glass of pink champagne or sparkling juice. Make a toast to yourself in the mirror and drink as you gaze at your reflection and marvel at your natural charm and considerable attractiveness.

Glamour

Do you sometimes wish you were more glamorous? Putting two to three drops hyacinth essence under the tongue two to three times a day for an entire moon cycle (new to full to new again) can help you get in touch with your inner black-and-white movie star and exude the timeless glamour that you so crave.

Influence

In the French language of flowers during the Victorian era, hyacinth meant “I love you; you destroy me.” While I’m not suggesting that you go about destroying anyone by employing the hyacinth’s awesome influential power, I am suggesting that, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, you might occasionally want to use “the force” to let your words ring exceptionally and immediately true for the people who hear them. For example, this might be helpful during court cases, while you’re trying to escape the clutches of Darth Vader and his evil empire, or any other time wielding a lot of influence might come in handy. Try incorporating hyacinth blossoms into spells or rituals designed for the purpose, or add three drops of the flower essence into a glass of chilled hibiscus tea. Before drinking it, empower it with your intention to dominate or persuade.
