Several people were particularly instrumental in helping me write this book.

Thanks to one of my high school English teachers, who I shall not name. Some years ago at my fortieth high school reunion, I approached him and thanked him profusely for helping me become a good writer. He responded with a look of utmost disagreeableness and said something shockingly insulting and off-putting. I was completely stunned. Only later did I realize what emotional pain he was in and that he had learned to deal with that pain by teaching others to write well.

I thank him again, and maybe one day he will be able to feel my gratitude in his heart.

Thanks to Sheridan McCarthy, my editor contracted through Sounds True. She was tasked with an enormous challenge: to cut, cut, cut the manuscript down by thousands of words. Through her careful and sensitive touch she managed to avoid cutting the essence, just eliminating the unnecessary, and for that I am very grateful.

Thank you to Kay Kamala, who first read my rather massive transcript and gave me sound advice.

Much gratitude to Mitchell Clute from Sounds True and to Tucker Collins for also reading my original manuscript and giving me most valuable feedback.
