Clematis
The Power of Flowers: Flower Essences

ORIGINS

Mainly of Japanese or Chinese origin, Clematis is a genus of about 300 species of climbing plants in the buttercup family with flowers or fruit clusters. The name comes from the Greek klematis, meaning “twig.” Clematis is one of Bach’s original flower remedies.

HISTORY/LORE

The Native Americans used clematis as a remedy for migraines, nervous disorders, and skin infections. Early American settlers used clematis as a pepper substitute to spice up food since real pepper was expensive and difficult to obtain.

USES

Bach categorized clematis under “not sufficient interest in present circumstances.” He wrote that this flower essence is useful for “those who are dreamy, drowsy, not fully awake, no great interest in life. Quiet people, not really happy in their present circumstances, living more in the future than in the present; living in hopes of happier times, when their ideals may come true. In illness some make little or no effort to get well, and in certain cases may even look forward to death, in the hope of better times; or maybe, meeting again some beloved one whom they have lost.” This flower essence brings you back down to earth and into the present so you can live a better life.
