A psychic housecleaning is an excellent way to clear and cleanse the environment of any house or other physical space. It may be used to clear away negative energies after an unpleasant event has occurred or after an unwelcome guest has left. Even if your home doesn’t seem to have any bad energies hanging around, a psychic housecleaning will serve to protect you and your family. Whenever possible, it’s good to perform a psychic housecleaning before it’s actually needed. This will help keep hostile energies away.

Your home isn’t the only place that can benefit from a psychic housecleaning. A psychic cleaning could also be done where your coven meets, in an office, or in a business or shop. I’ve known of a few taking place in dorm rooms.

A psychic housecleaning is a good way to protect and bless any business. I once performed one at a business the day after an employee was fired, and it helped restore positive energy and balance to the shop.

Don’t forget—a psychic housecleaning is also an especially good idea to perform when moving into a new house or apartment.

What You’ll Need

To perform a psychic housecleaning, you’ll need a new plain white candle that can be held and carried easily. A small pillar or taper candle that fits securely into a candleholder that has a handle would be perfect. You’ll also need a drop of olive oil to dress or anoint the candle with.

You may also wish to use a small wand or a ritual knife to trace a holy shape, such as a cross or pentagram, in front of doors and windows, but I’ve found that simply using your pointing finger works just as well.

After I’ve finished a housecleaning ritual, I like to end it by sprinkling a bit of any purifying herb at all entrances. I use white sage for its all-purpose cleansing qualities. Other herbs and spices you may want to have on hand for this purpose are cinnamon, clove, or lavender. Cinnamon and clove drive out evil forces while cleansing a space. Lavender brings peace and calm. It’s good to use after an argument.

Getting Ready

First, I suggest that you should usually perform any psychic housecleaning when you’ll be alone and won’t be disturbed. If you feel for some reason a particular psychic cleaning may be difficult, please ask a magically inclined friend for help. Also, if the physical space to be cleaned is larger than you think you can handle, then it is a good idea to ask for assistance.

As I mentioned earlier, you’ll need to dress or anoint your candle with olive oil. You’ll do that now before you actually begin your psychic housecleaning. To dress your candle, take a drop of olive oil and, beginning in the middle of the candle, rub the olive oil toward the wick. Then, using these same steps, repeat but rub toward the bottom of the candle. Dressing the candle in this manner charges it with positive energy. As you rub the oil along the candle, “see” positive energy filling your space and negative forces being repelled. Now your candle is charged with your intent.

Before starting the psychic housecleaning, have any other supplies ready. Have a candleholder on hand. If you intend to use an athame or wand, have it ready. I also have the herb I’ll use at the end of the ritual crumbled in a dish.

A Psychic Housecleaning Ritual

Let’s begin. If your psychic housecleaning involves a multistory house or structure, start on the top floor while facing the front of the house. If you have a safe, easily accessible attic, you may start there, if you wish. If not, start on the uppermost floor. You’ll spiral in a downward clockwise manner. Try to end at your front door.

If your house or apartment is one level, begin and end the ritual at your front door. Always move around your house in a clockwise direction.

First, light the candle. Gaze at the flame. Visualize the candlelight growing until it surrounds you and your home with a glowing protective aura.

To keep you and your home safe during the ritual, say the following words of power. This will help banish any negative forces. If you have a favorite prayer or affirmation that you prefer, then use it instead. Whatever you choose, say it in a strong, clear voice. Now, raise your candle and say your affirmation or these words of power:

With these words and candlelight,

I call upon all negative forces to take flight.

Leave peacefully from every corner and every space.

Depart; let only positive energy fill this place.

Spirits of joy, health, and happiness,

Protect all who live here from grief and sadness.

Begin moving clockwise around your house. Pause at each window, exterior door, or other opening, such as a fireplace. As you pause, use your athame, wand, or finger to make the shape of a holy symbol, such as a cross or a pentagram, at each opening.

Repeat these steps for each floor. If you feel the need, repeat the words of power.

Finally, you should end at your front door, or close to it if possible. Open the door and respectfully extinguish the candle. As an extra measure of cleansing and purification, sprinkle the herb of your choice at each exterior door.

Your home is now psychically cleaned and blessed.

Some Special Considerations

When it comes to psychic housecleaning, you may encounter certain circumstances that will require you to customize your methods. Here are some situations you may have to deal with and tips on how to handle them.

Don’t be discouraged if you feel you didn’t get rid of all the bad vibrations. A psychic housecleaning may need to be performed more than once.

If you have a room where a violent crime occurred and feel afraid to enter that room—don’t enter. Instead, stand at the threshold and bless the room with a holy symbol. Follow the same procedure as you did when blessing a window or fireplace.

Places such as cellars or attics are sometimes filled with creepy-crawly things. Instead of going into spaces such as these, try this: visualize the space in your mind, and then say your words of power. This also works if you’re dealing with a space you believe to be haunted.

A psychic housecleaning is a good way to create a safe haven for you and your family. Do it as often as you wish. Once a year is ideal, especially during the spring. Keep in mind that once negative energy has been removed from your home, it’s usually gone for good.
