By luck, Spanish designer Nacho Polo stumbled onto his new house. Built in 1925, it was in serious disrepair due to several hurricanes and years without maintenance. But the house and the gardens that surround it had enough charm left to convince the designer that this was the house he was looking for. Nacho was inspired by the vernacular tropical houses of Key West, Florida, to transform this gloomy old structure into a new light-filled home.
Regardless of style and taste, white brightens up a room and creates the illusion of a larger space.
Warm whites are comfortable, while cool whites energize. If you find an all-white room too sterile but don’t want contrast, add neutral color accents. You can also play with reflective and transparent materials.
Pattern and repeated elements can create a rhythm. Using them is often sufficient to make an interesting room without using a lot of color.
Balance is achieved not only through form, but also through color, texture, pattern, and light. The combination of these elements is how visual interest is built.
