Chapter 2. ASSESSING YOUR UNIQUE BALANCE

SO FAR WE’VE discussed the idea that we each have both masculine and feminine energy but as a result of hormones, upbringing and societal influences, one of these energies will be more dominant in each of us. Which energy is dominant is not necessarily related to your biological sex - you can be a man with a strong feminine energy or a woman with a strong masculine energy. Or you can be a woman with a strong feminine energy or a man with a strong masculine energy.

So which is your dominant energy? Do you have a feeling already?

In a minute you will take a quiz to help you determine your dominant energy, but first here is a very quick and fun test to get you going.

The Finger Test

Flatten out your right hand and take a look at your fingers, in particular your index finger (next to your thumb) and your ring finger (next to your little finger).

Which is longer?

It can be quite subtle, but Masculine Strength People tend to have ring fingers (measured from the crease where the finger joins the hand) that are longer than their index fingers. People with Feminine Strength tend to have ring fingers and index fingers of the same length, or they have index fingers that are longer.

Why? Well, scientists have found that the more testosterone you are exposed to in the womb, the longer your ring finger will be. As we have seen already, testosterone is the hormone linked to masculine energy. On the other hand, the index finger indicates the estrogen levels in a person.

Keep in mind that from my personal research, I found that this hand test is very effective at instantly indicating a person’s strength energy, however it is not 100% accurate. There were some exceptions.

Strengths Quiz

Next, get a pen and take a look at the characteristics below. Which words jump out at you? Which ones describe your approach to life?

Circle exactly ten of these characteristics that you believe to be your natural strengths. In other words, these are things that come naturally to you, things you rely on every day.

Follow your first instincts. When doing this quiz only pick the things that you are actually good at—do not pick characteristics that you would like to believe you are good at, or ones that you want to get better at. Go with your gut and don't overthink it.

The more honest you are with yourself the better and more accurate your feedback will be.

If you have a hard time picking your strengths, I would suggest you think about your closest friends and family. We are usually the most authentic with them. How would they describe you? When you see your reflection through the eyes of those who know you well, you can begin to identify your personal talents.

For example: I am empathetic, although empathy is not my strength. Is it something I am working on? Sure! But I have to be honest with myself. It's not my natural strength. One of my strength is "Active." I'm always moving, always doing something. I have a hard time sitting still.

Now, choose your ten strengths:

1. Flexible

2. Active

3. Direct

4. Expressive

5. Ambitious

6. Nurturing

7. Sensitive

8. Trusting

9. Strong

10. Confident

13. Reliable

14. Free-spirited

15. Creative

RESULTS

If you scored 30 or below your strength energy is masculine. (Exception: if you are man and you scored exactly 30, your strength energy is feminine)

If you scored 31 and above your strength energy is feminine.

The lower your score, the stronger your masculine strength is. The higher the score, the stronger your feminine strength is.

So what does that mean?

What is the difference between masculine and feminine energy?

Masculine and Feminine Energy List

Masculine Energy is:

LOGICAL: It uses rational, analytical and scientific thought processes to make choices. It can be cynical and closed-minded.

CONFIDENT: It is assertive, decisive and powerful. It takes action. It is happy to take risks and also take responsibility. It can be controlling. It is always certain it is right.

COMPETITIVE: It is driven, focused, determined, disciplined, goal-oriented and ambitious. It is concerned with money and status. It can be impatient, striving, judgmental, possessive and jealous.

STRONG: It is physically strong and emotionally reliable. It is consistent and responsible, loyal, hard-working and generous.

INDEPENDENT: It seeks freedom, not connection. It is rebellious and dislikes authority. It values itself and struggles to connect with others and to express feelings.

Feminine Energy is:

EMOTIONAL: It is empathetic, kind, loving, compassionate and nurturing. It can get lost in emotions and lose sight of goals.

INTUITIVE: It is wise, introspective, creative and sensitive.

FREE-SPIRITED: It lives in the moment and is spontaneous, fun-loving and aesthetic; it can be unpredictable, unreliable, disorganized and chaotic. It is usually not good with managing money.

EXPRESSIVE: It communicates freely and easily. It connects easily with others. It can talk endlessly and in circles.

OPEN: It is open-minded, cooperative, collaborative and trusting. It is patient and receptive. It values others. It is happy to be rather than to do. It can be naïve and too easily persuaded.
